Summer Tournment 2009 Finals Day
Monday, 10 August 2009

Our summer tournament involved over 80 matches being played in mid-July. The mens singles had an entry of 45 and resulted in a first-time win for Daryl Eaton who defeated Henry Brooks by 6-2, 6-4 in the final. The closest final was in the ladies singles where Christa Gecheva regained the title with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory against our Head Coach Kim Freebairn. Kim won her fourth successive ladies doubles when in partnership with Jacinta Gunn she defeated Jo Barkey and Colette Mahieu by 6-0, 6-3. The mens doubles was a win for Dham Ekanayake and Amit Mohindra who defeated the giant-killing combo of Tim Barkey and Martyn Lunn by 7-5, 6-0. In the final match of the day Kim was again successful when partnered by Ashley Balm she defeated Christa Gecheva and Paul West by 6-3, 6-3. This provided Ashley Balm with his 32nd Wilton tournament title. To mark this achievement (which equals Bert Harrington all-time record total of Wilton wins) Ashley was presented with the Bert Harrington Plaque.

Summer Tournament Draw 2008
Sunday, 29 June 2008

Thank you for entering the club summer tournament which begins on Saturday 5th July. The draw has been made and is displayed in the clubhouse. The order of play is attached below. Please check the times of your matches and please make every effort to be on time.

All matches are best of 3 tie break sets.

There are a total of 80 matches to play so it will not be possible to alter the times and dates of matches. The only exceptions are if:
 1) bad weather causes postponements,
 2) if I have made an error in scheduling including not considering dates when players have stated that they are unavailable
 3) if players are needed for Wilton club matches.

Hope you enjoy taking part.

Regards

Terry

Summer Tournament 2007 Finals Results
Tuesday, 24 July 2007
There were many similarities between this summer's Wilton club tournament and the other one held earlier in the month at our slightly larger neighbouring club. We too struggled with the weather. Even on Finals Day rain caused players to come and go off court. Spectators became frustrated and there was talk of extending to a third week! We also had a defending champion who held off a determined challenger in the best mens singles final for years. For Federer and Nadal-read Balm and Brooks!Special congratulations to Ashley for his 25th title in club tournaments. Our equivalent of Jamie and Jelena were the untried pairing of Dham and Kim who came back from set and 5-2 down to defeat the established pairing of Ashley and Jeanne in a thrilling last set tie break.
Results:
Ladies Singles: Jacinta Gunn bt Jeanne Vermaak  6-3, 6-2
Mens Singles: Ashley Balm bt Henry Brooks 6-1, 4-6, 7-5
Ladies Doubles: Kim Freebairn and Jacinta Gunn bt Christa Gecheva and Michaela Knespl 6-3, 6-7, 6-1
Mens Doubles: Henry Brooks and Paul Johnson bt Ben Grozier and Luke Thompson w/o
Mixed Doubles: Dham Ekanayake and Kim Freebairn bt Ashley Balm and Jeanne Vermaak 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Effect of summer tournament on court availability
Monday, 09 July 2007
Dear Member

Our club tournament starts this Saturday with 71 matches needing to be played.

As a result:

1-There will be no team practice sessions for the next two weeks.

2-Social tennis will take place as normally as possible but with the following limitations:
Sat 7th (3 courts available), Sun 8th (all 4 available), Wed 11th and Wed 18th( 2 courts only until 8.45pm, all 4 subsequently) Sat 14th and Sun 15th (all 4 available), Sat 21st Finals Day (no courts available until 5pm).

3-On Thursdays and Fridays there will limited availabilty to book courts-please let me know if you wish to do so.

We hope for improved weather and that you will be able to come along and watch what should be some very good matches-from 10am at weekends ad from 7.30pm in the evenings.

Regards

Terry

Summer Tournament 2007 Order Of Play
Monday, 09 July 2007
All five events have staggered draws (on club board from Wednesday) so that the stronger players enter later-this should ensure some close matches.

All matches are best of 3 sets-with tie breaks in the first two. Good quality balls will be provided. Please make every effort to start on time-especially when there are follow-on matches

On occasions you may have to play 2 matches in one day. Ths is because I have tried to keep courts for social tennis and also to avoid the Wimbledon finals There is also a National Club League match which has had to be re-arranged for Sun 15th.

Singles League FINAL - Congrats to Olly Lester! 11/12/09
The finals of this year's singles league took place on 11th December.
Group A was reasonably straightforward. The final positions were: 1st Olly Lester 3, 2nd Terry Oakes 2, 3rd Kevin Laws 1, 4th Richard Matthews 0.

Group B was extremely close with several very tight matches. The positions had to be determined by games won and then head to head.  Positions were: 1st Tomasz Zbikowski 2, 2nd Steve Ingle 2, 3rd Simon Hancock 2, 4th Jean-Marc Michel (replaced by Chris Drew for final group match) 0.

Play off were then held to determine the final positions. These produced a final order of
