After a particularly harsh winter our Finals Day was played in glorious sunshine. No less than 137 matches were played in the ten events which is a tribute to the enthusiasm of our members.
Star of the day was Head Coach Kim Freebairn who celebrated her last hirsute day (at least for a while) by winning all three main events- on each occasion defeating Rochelle van der Walt in the finals. The mens singles was won by Ted Boyce in three very close sets against Henry Brooks. Ted thereby won his fourth mens singles title and his first since 1998!
Ashley Balm won two more doubles title (with Tom Coombe and Kim) to raise his career total to a record-breaking 34. Two of the age group finals featured the redoubtable Martyn Lunn. Martyn was on court for almost five hours non stop in losing closely to Gyuri Mathe in the 35's and coming back to defeat Shervin Nejand in the 45's. The 55's final fell victim to the volcanic ash which caused Gerry Doyle to disappear from the Wilton radar!
The drawn mixed saw a three set victory for Beth Frith and Kevin Laws against Ann and James Chadwick. Kevin also featured in a hard fought Handicap Singles final against Chris Drew. Chris's excellent account of the day can be seen by clicking here.

Thank you for entering the club winter tournament. We have a bumper entry (achieved with a minimum of coersion!) with the result that no less than 175 matches have to be played by Finals Day on 4th April!! This means that rounds will have to be played to very strict deadlines. Matches not played in time will be liable to be voided or one pair will be scratched. As soon as you are given details of your opponent please contact them (and your partner) immediately. Players' email addresses are shown as cc in draw order. Matches can be played at any time except Sundays between 10 and 1 and weekday evenings between 4.30 and 7 pm. Please let me know asap when you would like to play your match so that I can confirm whether a court is available. If you do not get an immediate reply from your opponent please ask me for their phone contact numbers.
