Report On The Red Mini Tournament 5th November

Tuesday, 07 November 2006

redtournamentphotoA bright, sunny day greeted 17 keen juniors who arrived to play in the first 'Red Mini' Tournament held at Wilton on Sunday 5th November. The format was an 'Everyone's Your Partner Round Robin' allowing all involved to mix in with players not neccessarily from their school or coaching class making it a very sociable affair.
Many parents hung around to watch the action which was great and as the day went on the rallies got longer and everyones matchplay started to improve infront of our very eyes.
After completing 8 short matches each the pizza came out (and didn't last long) and the winners, Saphire and Anastacia were announced the winners in a very close contest and everyone went ome with a small prize.
Thanks to the kids for playing in what was a very successful and well worth repeating event. Thanks to the parents for getting up and bringing them down to the club on a sunday morning!

Wilton Supersets Result 4th Nov 2006

Tuesday, 07 November 2006
Saturday November 4th saw the 3rd Annual Wilton Supersets competition with the fireworks off court match by those on court. Players travelled across London to compete for the £100 first prizes. The latter stages of the mens event included three superb matches which went to deciding tie breaks. Competitor of the day was unranked Czech Marek Galuszka who played through qualifying and suffered an injured wrist to only narrowly fail in the final to Paul Lomas-the current Surrey singles champion.  The ladies singles was won by Wilton member Christa Gecheva who defeated Gemma Sgariglia (ranked two divisions above Christa) in another excellent final. The whole occasion was greatly assisted by ABTO official umpires and ballboys and girls from the Lynn Jones Academy.

Wilton Team Reach Quarter Finals Of Insight Challenge

Friday, 20 October 2006

Our mixed team performed incredibly well to reach the national quarter finals of the Insight Challenge-a competition open to clubs throughout Britain. Having come through the Home Counties section we then defeated Avenue Havant. Finally the team travelled to Exeter by minibus with a group of supporters where we lost closely to a strong home team who have themselves reached the national semis in the last four year.
