Table Tennis At Wilton
Wilton runs two table tennis teams in the Wandsworth and District league. The first team plays in division 1 and the second team plays in division 5. Home matches are played in the club house on Friday nights starting at 7.30pm. The standard of play in the first division is very high and in the fifth division the standard is good. Spectators are welcome. A match consists of three against three players who play nine singles matches plus one doubles match at the end. Each division consists of five teams, teams play each other home and away and there is promotion and relegation at Christmas and at end March. The first team is captained by Paul West and the second team is captained by Andy Slough. If you would like to play competitive table tennis, please contact either Paul or Andy.
If you are interested in playing on a casual or social basis, the table is available at most times apart from Friday evening. We have recently purchased a brand new table tennis table and club bats and balls are available if you do not have your own.

Wilton table tennis first team had our third league match
on Friday. We played York Gardens B team (the second strongest team in the
league) and lost 10-0. However, 4 out of 9 singles matches went to the deciding
fifth game and we lost the fifth game by 11-9 in each case. So the match was
much closer than the scoreline suggests. Next week we play South Mitcham (away)
and hope to pick up our first points of the season.

Wilton table tennis first team had our first league match
last Friday. We are playing in the first division against three strong Y Gardens
teams and South Mitcham who have the strongest player in the league. We
lost our match 8-2 but all the games were competitive.

Wilton table tennis first team had our first match on
Friday in the handicap cup. We were giving 8 points start in all games to Vale
D. One of their players was much too strong for the handicap and won his three
matches fairly easily. We had tight games with the other two but overall we lost
6-3.

Hi Guys,
I've just got the fixtures through for the coming season (listed
below). We are in division 1 with only 4 other teams - three from Y Gardens and
S Mitcham. If Felix goes back to China this month, then that will be a sad loss.
However, I think I would try to play the other three of us (Chris, Richard and
me) in all matches and use a reserve from second team if needed.

Congratulations to our table tennis teams on an extremely successful season resulting in promotion for all three teams. In the Wandsworth and District League. Our 1st team (Paul West, Felix Wang, Chris Dolphin and Richard Evans) won Division 2 to return to the top division next season. Our 2nd team (Peng Cheng, Richard Cumbley and Mert Kirtelar) won a closely- fought Division 3. The 3rd team (Ramil Dilmeev, Andy Slough, Paul Couper and Andrew Merkler) were runners up in both Division 4 and the Handicap Cup. |
