Table Tennis At Wilton
Wilton runs two table tennis teams in the Wandsworth and District league. The first team plays in division 1 and the second team plays in division 5. Home matches are played in the club house on Friday nights starting at 7.30pm. The standard of play in the first division is very high and in the fifth division the standard is good. Spectators are welcome. A match consists of three against three players who play nine singles matches plus one doubles match at the end. Each division consists of five teams, teams play each other home and away and there is promotion and relegation at Christmas and at end March. The first team is captained by Paul West and the second team is captained by Andy Slough. If you would like to play competitive table tennis, please contact either Paul or Andy.
If you are interested in playing on a casual or social basis, the table is available at most times apart from Friday evening. We have recently purchased a brand new table tennis table and club bats and balls are available if you do not have your own.

Wilton A played Wilton B for the first time in a division 2 league match tonight (Friday). Wilton A were represented by Paul West (capt), Richard Evans and Chris Dolphin while Wilton B were represented by Mert Kirteler (capt), Tomasz Zbiowski and Richard Cumbley.
It was a tough match with many exciting rallies to entertain the crowd. Wilton A took the first 4 games before a fight back by Wilton B. Wilton A eventually triumphed 7-3. For Wilton A, Paul won 3, Chris won 2 and Richard won 1. For Wilton B, all three players won 1 each. In the final game of the evening, Paul West and Richard Evans beat Tomasz and Richard Cumbley in the doubles.
The return match is due to take place during the Wilton junior (and adult) open tournament in February and so it will be moved - watch this space for the date. In this eagerly anticipated match, Wilton B will enjoy home advantage so the story may be different! :)
Best wishes,
Paul West |

Wilton A started life in division 2 with a 6-4 win away to Vale B last night (Tuesday 11th Jan). Wilton A were represented by Paul West, Chris Dolphin and Richard Evans and overcame an experienced Vale side in a tight match. Paul and Chris won their 3 singles matches.
Next week, Wilton A play Wilton B on Friday. This is the first time 2 Wilton teams have played in a league match as far as I know. Previously, Wilton teams have only met each other in cup matches.

Wilton's home match against Y Gardens C last Friday was cancelled due to snow making travelling difficult.
Wilton completed the first half of the season with an away match to S Mitcham yesterday (Thursday 9th Dec). Felix again played extremely well to win 2 singles matches and he also took a game off Steve Holloway (the best player in the league) in the course of a close match. Paul West and Richard Evans did not register in the singles but combined in the last match of the evening to win the doubles and so secure another point for Wilton in the course of a 7-3 defeat.
Wilton A will be relegated to the second division after Christmas - Wilton won division 2 comfortably last season and will hope to do well again.
thanks,
Paul |
