Wilton A team table tennis

Wilton A team has completed the first half of the season and the results are listed below. Based on these, I am fairly sure that we will finish 5th and will be palying in the second division after Christmas.

Special mention should be made of the match we played last Friday in the handicap cup semi final against Wilton C. As far as I know, this is the only all Wilton semi-final in the clubs history. Wilton A were represented by myself, Felix Wang and Richard Evans and Wilton C were represented by Andy Slough, Paul Couper and Ramil. Wilton C enjoyed an 11 point lead in games to 21 and matches were best of three games. It was a very close match with a number of games going to 20 all. In a winner takes all scenario that Alan Stanford could only dream about, it was fitting that the match went to the final match - and indeed the third game of the final match - after the tie had reached 4 matches all. Congratulations go to Wilton C who triumphed in the deciding match with Andy Slough beating Felix Wang.

Wilton table tennis historians will of course recognise that it was appropriate that Andrew Merkler, current captain of Wilton C, and veteran of the last famously victorious Wilton handicap cup campaign of the 1998/99 season was there to guide and mentor his younger charges into the final 10 years on. Lets hope for a Wilton victory in the final in 2009.
