Wilton V vs Gardens II - special Frosty court techniques used

The Fifth team played our second match of the current season and first of 2012 on Sunday and fought hard but ultimately lost 0-4 to a strong Gardens II team.

So far it has been a character building season and we've come up against two strong teams. Three matches to go and we are now aiming for a Great Escape to avoid relegation!

Playing on Sunday were: Roger, Richard E, James and myself.

The results were as follows:

James & Chris lost to Gardens 2nd pair 3-6, 6-2, 8-10 (match tie-break)

Roger & Richard lost to Gardens 1st pair 3-6, 4-6

James & Chris lost to Gardens 1st pair 2-6, 4-6

Roger & Richard lost to Gardens 2nd pair 3-6, 5-7

Pre-match we saw first hand Richard's unique - and successful - court de-frosting technique and Roger's famous yellow match made it's first appearance of 2012.

Thanks to all for playing and I must give a shout out to Terry for much appreciated help on Saturday evening to cover the back of all four courts with the tarpaulin.

Wilton Fifth team have tough start to 2011-12 Winter Campaign

Here is the report from our home match against Banstead Downs III on Sunday 6th November.

They were in short a very strong team and won 4-0 - Ben and Richard made good team debuts but unfortunately I was quite badly off form (including a very rare broken string) and so Damian and I did not exactly set the world on fire! However thanks to all for playing.

Playing for team were: Chris Drew, Damian McFadden, Richard Embry, Ben McFarlane

Results:

Chris&Damian lost to BD3 2nd pair 6-0, 6-1
Ben&Richard lost to BD3 1st pair 6-4, 6-4
Chris&Damian lost to BD3 1st pair 6-1, 6-1
Ben&Richard lost to BD3 2nd pair 6-1, 6-3

The only way is up - I am hopeful that the other teams in division R West but not be as strong!

Mens 4th team vs Wentworth 2

The team played their first match last week away to Wentworth 2. We were represented by Nick and Simon and by John and Sam. The opposition were very tough and will hopefully prove to be the strongest team in the division. John and Sam managed a set against the 2nd pair while Nick and Simon went one better with a straight sets win. Thanks to Sam for driving the team.

Hi Guys,

The Men's 3rd team had our second AEGON Team Tennis match on Sunday away against South Croydon. Alas the score was 0-6 but there were some very good matches.

The team fought valiantly and but were cursed by match tie-breaks in the the singles and then our opposition were very strong in the doubles.

The results in full were as follows:

Singles

N.Gruselle (7.1) lost to Jeremy Toop (6.1) 1-6 6-4 0-1(7)

R.Tagholm (7.2) lost to Luigi Napolano (7.1) 1-6 2-6

T. Zbikowski (8.1) lost to Danny Netto (7.2) 7-5 2-6 0-1(4)

S.Cleary (8.2) lost to Jason Krohn (8.2) 4-6 7-6(5) 0-1(5)

Doubles

Gruselle/Tagholm lost to Toop/Netto 2-6 4-6

Zbikowski/Cleary lost to Krohn/Laponano 1-6 1-6

Out final match is away against Lifetime Tennis in Wandsworth in Sunday June 6th and I will be in touch to organise shortly.

Results: First ever Mens 3rd AEGON Team Tennis result

Hi Guys,

The Men's 3rd team made our AEGON Team Tennis debut yesterday away at Purley Bury ll and went down 5-1 in a well fought match.

Playing as No.1 and No.2 Tomasz and I had similar matches recovering from difficult first sets and having much closer hard fought second sets.

As No.3 Richard produced a superb comeback to win after losing the opening set - the match tie-break was dramatic as Richard's 8-2 lead was whittled down to 9-8 before he got over the finish line! At No.4 Sam was edged out in tense match tie-break.

Going into the doubles we still had a chance of pulling level at 3-3 and we all played well in very similar matches. In ours Sam and I led 4-2 in the first set and 3-1 in the second but crucially couldn't convert points for a 4-1 lead and then they got away from us.

Singles

C.Drew (7.2) lost to David Earl (7.1) 2-6 3-6

T.Zbikowski (8.2-8.1) lost to Mark Brown (8.1) 2-6 4-6

R.Cumbley (8.2) BEAT Alex Shaw (8.2) 2-6 6-4 1-0(8)

S.Cleary (9.1-8.2) lost to David Ellison (8.2) 6-3 2-6 0-1(6)

Doubles

Drew/Cleary lost to Earl/Ellison 6-7(3) 3-6

Zbikowski/Cumbley lost to Brown/Shaw 6-7(5) 2-6

Certainly a well fought and enjoyed first match against some nice guys. Thanks to all for playing - the next match is against South Croydon on 8th May and I will organise the team very soon.

There will not be an organsied singles practice tonight but there will be two courts free if you fancy going along to have a hit. Singles practice sessions will start again next week.
