Wilton teams competed this year in AEGON Team Tennis (the re-branded National Club League).
After several seasons of unbroken success our ladies team reached National Division 1 and finally met their match competing against clubs including full-time highly-ranked players. We finished the seaon in 5th place out of seven teams- a meritorious performance for a relatively small club. Wins were recorded against St George's Hill (against whom we had suffered a rare defeat last season) and away to Hampden Park in Eastbourne. Both Christa Gecheva and Lisa Losseva recorded excellent wins against higher-rated players. Congratulations to them and to the remainder of our team-Gaby Hay, Alex McDonald, Kim Freebairn, Jacinta Gunn and Beth Frith. For the first time we have a ladies 2nd team competing in a county division- most of their matches are yet to have been played.
Our mens team started well with a victory against regular opposition Purley. From there onwards however the other teams in Surrey Division 1 proved just a bit too strong despite all the matches being closely fought. Representing Wilton during the season were Jaymie Paramu, Alex Kamieniecki, Ashley Balm, Daryl Eaton, Paul Johnson and Marian Velik.
Six Wilton teams competed in the junior leagues. For the first time these were run on a fixed date basis which caused numerous teething problems. Wilton teams were awarded no less than ten walk overs because of the inability of other (normally much larger) clubs to raise teams. Our most successful team were the Girls 16's (Lisa Losseva, Savannah Challenger, Kallum Challenger, Savannah Williams and Lea Kamskard- Bennett) who finished 2nd (only one set behind the winners) in Surrey Division 1. Congratulations to all our juniors who represented Wilton and especially to Ann Chadwick, Dham Ekanayake,Pat Evans, Alex Heaver and Carmel Williams for all their work in organising fixtures.
